The hundred languages of children and the Atelier culture
Thursday, March 9 2023 - Loris Malaguzzi International Centreviale Ramazzini 72/a, Reggio Emilia
Creativity, like knowledge, springs from a sense of awe Loris Malaguzzi, 1984
A visit to the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre in Reggio Emilia is scheduled for publishers, authors, illustrators, editors, translators, designers, agents, sector operators and the general public as part of the partnership between Bologna Children’s Book Fair and Reggio Children.
Visitors will be given an insight into the creative approach to learning and the hundred languages theory at the basis of Reggio Emilia’s education philosophy for infants, toddlers and preschool children, today a major reference point on the national and international education scene.
Inaugurated by the city of Reggio Emilia in February 2006, the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre, brings together operators from Italy and elsewhere committed to innovative educational and cultural approaches. Designed as a public place for all ages, our Centre welcomes people of all cultures eager to exchange ideas and experience in the field of education.
The day visit for children’s publishers will start with an introductory presentation of the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy. Then, there will be the possibility to have lunch at our Restaurant or Café Pause – Atelier of Tastes project, that grew out of experience in the in-house kitchens of local infant and toddler centres and preschools. In the early afternoon, you will experience a visit to the exhibitions and ateliers of the International Centre.
One of the most original features of the Reggio educational approach is to consider a vast range of expressive languages – visual, musical, pictorial, body, plastic etc. – and the aesthetic dimension as key elements of our lives through which we, as members of the human species, access learning throughout life.
The Atelier is a place that weaves together the several aspects – cognitive, emotional, expressive and rational – involved in knowledge and learning. Here, the different expressive languages, along with the aesthetic dimension, form the basis for all the projects and initiatives developed. It is an approach that triggers intense interest, curiosity and wonder in the things around us, as well as a collective problem-solving spirit.
Reggio Children is also an independent publishing house producing titles on a range of child-learning projects and research that also include the child’s perspective, based on the experience of the schools of Reggio Emilia.
Reggio Children’s catalogue is published directly and by more than sixty partner publishers in Italy and elsewhere in 27 languages: Italian, Albanian, Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Traditional Chinese and Vietnamese.
We will be present at the 60th edition of The Bologna Children’s Book Fair at the BBPLUS Italian collective stand (Hall 29 - Mall 1).
